Hey K/1 families! I feel like I haven't let you know what's up in our classroom for a while, so I will give you a quick run down! We have begun both our reading and mathcurriculums! Kindergarten is working on number recognition, writing numbers and counting1-5 in chapter 1. This is going VERY quickly as most students are well versed in this! First graders are working on Addition and different strategies for addition. We have doneaddition before, so students are doing well! We still work on Rocket Math as well for fluency.
Reading has TONS going on! Kindergarten students are beginning to READ! We have been working on the star words, I and like. It is exciting to see them so excited to pick up abook and find those words and be able to read them! We have worked on the letters Mm and Aa and the sounds they make. We will work on a letter each week throughout the year. We will make lists of words that begin with that sound along with many other activities. Beginning next week, I will send a book home that we have practiced in class for students to read to you. Please check your child's folder daily for these. Read them and send them back to school.
First graders are doing amazing! They are getting back to reading, which I love to see! We have begun Daily 5 this week which includes read to self, read to someone (which wewill be adding to Seesaw as a voice recordind), word work, listen to reading and writing. They are required to do these 5 things every day! So far so good! We have been discussing what a good community member is and have talked about some people from history who have been good Community members.
So sorry for the long post! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Please check your child's folder daily for homework. I will do my best NOT to send homework on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Thank you all for supporting you little learners, we are so happy to have students in the building!
Have a great day
